For those of us who have been lucky enough to avoid ever dealing with an eating disorder it might be hard for us to get our heads around how someone could develop such a thing. After all, it’s just food, right? We’re not talking about an alcohol or drug addiction which people seem better able to understand. The fact is that eating disorders are extremely serious and are just as real as any other disease. People with eating disorders literally do not see themselves the way the rest of the world sees them. If you have even the slightest suspicion that you might be suffering from an eating disorder it’s vital to get help immediately. The following signs may be an indication that the potential for an eating disorder is something you should take very seriously.

1. Eating Habits

Sometimes people with an eating disorder will suddenly decide that they do not like a particular food that they have always enjoyed. This is particularly true of foods that are considered fattening. The same people will often begin to start making excuses for not eating and wanting to eat alone as often as possible. Use of laxatives might also become a problem and may be another sign of an eating disorder.
