Food additives have been around for centuries, making food last longer, look prettier, and taste good. A typical household spends at least 90 percent of their grocery budget on processed foods, exposing themselves to loads of artificial additives that can cause dire consequences to their health.

1. Artificial Sweeteners

Aspartame is in foods labeled “diet” or “sugar-free.” It is known to be a carcinogen and neurotoxin, and is responsible for more “bad” reactions than all other foods and food additives. Aspartame is known to erode intelligence and affect short term memory. The components in aspartame may cause dangerous problems such as brain tumors, MS, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, anxiety attacks, depression, headaches and a slew of other ailments. Acesulfame-K is a fairly new artificial sweetener that is found in a lot of chewing gum, candy, gelatin, cookies, and cakes. This artificial sweetener has not been thoroughly been tested, so it would be wise to steer away from consuming items with this sweetener. It has been linked to kidney tumors. These artificial sweeteners are also found in things such as puddings, toothpaste, ice tea, breath mints, cereal and chewable vitamins. Since there are so many foods out there that include Aspartame, the only way to avoid it is to read the labels.
